Offender dies from apparent suicide at Mountain View Correctional

Jason William Martin (#0760219) died Wednesday, Sept. 25 of an apparent suicide at Mountain View Correctional Institution.

Martin, 38, was found unresponsive in his cell shortly before 1 p.m. Prison medical staff performed life-saving procedures, and EMS responded, but he was pronounced dead at 1:45 p.m.

Law enforcement and the N.C. Office of Chief Medical Examiner have been notified and are investigating, as required in these circumstances. The Department of Adult Correction is cooperating fully and conducting its own investigation.

Martin was convicted in Rockingham County in April 2017 on habitual felon charges. He was scheduled for release in January 2028.
