Officer-involved shooting in Cherokee County

At about 8:15 pm on September 10, 2022, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office in Murphy North Carolina received a call for service on Radford Road, in the Hiawassee Dam Community of Cherokee County. The nature of the call involved an individual discharging a firearm.

While investigating the call for service a suspect was shot in an officer-involved shooting. The suspect was later pronounced deceased.

In accordance with Cherokee County Sheriff's Office Policy the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Office of District Attorney Ashely Welch was notified. It was requested that the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation complete an investigation into the incident.

As the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is currently investigating the incident this office will not issue any further press releases to ensure a fair and impartial investigation into this incident.
