Patterns continue for HHS volleyball teams
Hayesville High School's volleyball teams travelled to Robbinsville on Tuesday, Oct. 11 to start the final week of the regular season with matches against the Lady Black Knights. The varsity team was hunting win number 12 and the JV squad was looking to stay undefeated in the Smoky Mountain Conference.
After a dominating performance against Robbinsville earlier this season, the JV Lady Jackets took the floor with their guard up against complacency. Hayesville came out strong, showing why they've sliced through the conference. The Lady Jackets built up an early lead and cruised to a 25-9 win in the opening set.
Set two was another no doubter. Hayesville once again got off to a hot start and limited their mistakes while giving the Lady Knights minimal scoring opportunities. The Lady Jackets got another 25-9 set win to stay undefeated in conference play. It also kept another stat alive for the team. Hayesville's JV squad has only lost one set to a SMC team this season.
In the nightcap, the varsity Lady Jackets found themselves in an all too familiar situation. The opening set was a close one with the foes exchanging points. Ultimately, Robbinsville was able to closeout the set with a 25-21 win.
Set two was more lopsided. The Lady Jackets struggled to get momentum rolling and the host team took advantage with a 25-14 win to give Robbinsville a 2-0 lead.
Hayesville able to shake off the second set performance and challenged the Lady Knights in the third. Facing defeat, the Lady Jackets kept bringing the fight. So much so, 25 points weren't enough to claim a set win. The Lady Jackets just couldn't get the ball to bounce in their favor and Robbinsville took the match with a 27-25 set-win.
Both teams will finish their regular season Thursday, Oct. 13 in The Hive as they host Andrews. JV is scheduled for 5 p.m. with varsity at 6 p.m. Senior players
will also be recognized during the event.
