Due to expected rains Friday (May 6), the entire Peach Belt Conference Softball Tournament has been pushed back a day.
The 2022 edition of the tournament will now be played Saturday and Sunday (May 7-8) at Doug Spears Field on the campus of Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina.
The Mountain Lions (22-20) will face No. 4 seed Georgia Southwestern State University (33-20) in a 2:30 p.m. first-round game Saturday (May 7). Georgia Southwestern took two-of-three games from Young Harris when the teams met earlier this season in Young Harris. The Mountain Lions hold a 16-8 edge in the all-time series with the Hurricanes. The winner of the Young Harris-Georgia Southwestern State game will advance to Sunday's (May 8) 10 a.m. semifinal against No. 1 seed University of North Georgia (40-15). The other first-game games Saturday (May 7) are tournament host and No. 3 seed Lander (34-14) facing No. 6 seed University of South Carolina-Aiken (29-21) at noon, while No. 2 seed Columbus State University (28-23) facing No. 7 seed Flagler College (25-26) at 5 p.m. The winners from those two games will meet in Sunday's (May 8) other semifinal at 12:30 p.m. The championship game is set for 3 p.m. Sunday (May 8). The winner of the PBC Tournament will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
Tickets are $10 per person per day and can only be purchased online at https://peachbeltconference.org/sports/2020/10/14/tickets.aspx. No tickets will be sold at the tournament. PBC students will be admitted to the game free with a valid college ID along with children under the age of five.
