Press Release
The Scribes on Stage 2024 series at the Peacock Performing Arts Center in Hayesville,
NC, presents another stage production again honoring the local old-time festival, LIES
and PIES at 7:30 pm on Saturday, April 27, 2024. The event with stories and music is a
revival of community and family fun that was a Labor Day tradition in Clay County from
1999 to 2006. It was the brain child of the Clay County Community Revitalization
Association (CCCRA) to raise money for local projects to make our mountain
community a better place to live and work.
With this year’s stage evening production of LIES and LIES of tall tales, big fibs, music
and stories will include a pie-making silent auction with local merchants providing pies
for the evening. Businesses and organizations providing pies include Jo Jo’s Cookie
Boutique, Peacock Performing Arts Center, Tiger’s General Store, Angelo’s Pizza, Keep
Me Posted, Lazy Llama, Angelo’s Pizza, Clay County Community Revitalization
Committee, Hayesville Historic, Inc. and Good Shepherd Episcopal Church.
Host for the upcoming production, Kanute Rarey, explained that besides the outrageous
liar’s contest at the center of the original Labor Day festival, everyone looked forward to
the delicious pies that local homemakers brought to the weekend event. Also he added
with a smile that the lobby will be filled with the aroma of fresh baked pies and with a
wink that E.J. and Aly Caiazzo at Angelo’s Pizza on the square downtown promised
their pie would be full of surprises.
Bidding for the scrumptious home-made pies will start as the doors open to the Peacock
at 7:00 p.m. and continue at intermission. Pie winners will be announced after
intermission so everyone will take therapies home right after the night's performance.
The highest bid gets the pie. All proceeds are donated to the Peacock for up-coming
special projects. Everyone is invited to join family and friends for this evening of
entertainment and fun.
Tickets and information are available at the Peacock box office , 301Church St.
