Severe Weather Causes Widespread Outages for BRMEMC

Blue Ridge Mountain EMC (BRMEMC) experienced widespread outages resulting from severe weather that rolled through our service territory in the late afternoon hours of Sunday, June 25. At the peak of the event, BRMEMC had 124 outages affecting approximately 15,251 members. Power restoration efforts began as soon as it was safe for crews to assess the damage and begin work, which was fairly immediately after the storm damage occurred.
High winds and lightning from the storm caused the majority of the outages. Trees were blown over that snapped lines and broke 12 poles, and several transformers had to be replaced. The areas most affected by storm damage were in west Cherokee County off Highway 64, and the Suches and Dial areas of Union and Fannin counties.
By late afternoon on Monday, June 26 all power outages from the storm were restored.
