Shooter's Father Charged

Robert Crimo Jr., the father of the gunman in the July 4 Highland Park, Illinois, shooting, was arrested after being charged with seven felony counts of reckless conduct Friday, one for each of the shooting victims. Each carries a maximum of three years in what legal observers have described as a rare case of a parent facing charges for their child's crimes.
The elder Crimo is a known businessman in the affluent north Chicago suburb of 30,000, having also run for mayor in 2019. He is accused of signing the then-19-year-old shooter's gun permit application in 2019 after reports that the son threatened violence against himself and others. His son, now 22, has pleaded not guilty to over 100 criminal counts after allegedly opening fire from a store rooftop on hundreds marching in the neighborhood Independence Day parade.
Previously, the father denied any wrongdoing, and was released on $50K bail Saturday. His next hearing is set for Jan. 12.
