Catamount football looks to “White Out Whitmire” for its home-opening game, wearing its white Nike uniform when it rekindles the rivalry with Campbell with the first series meeting since 1939. Fans are encouraged to wear their white WCU gear to the game. The first 5,000 fans through the gates will receive a free “White Out Whitmire” commemorative T-shirt.
The 2024 season opener includes the traditional WCU Freshmen Run as the Class of 2028 leads the Catamount football team onto the field for the first time. Festivities also include the first performance of the “Pride of the Mountains” Marching Band, in addition to the third-annual Band Day as the Pride welcomes area high school marching bands to Cullowhee.
WCU’s Sept. 7 game also opens a season-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of E.J. Whitmire Stadium which opened for its first game back in 1974. To help commemorate, Catamount Athletics welcomes home all former football student-athletes, coaches, and support staff such as managers and athletic trainers for a special day that will include a decade-by-decade on-field presentation. Former Catamount football players should contact the WCU Athletics Ticket Office for more information on attending.
Individual game ticket sales for WCU’s remaining four home dates will go on sale next Thursday, Aug. 1. The Catamounts host Southern Conference foes Wofford (Oct. 5) on WCU Family Weekend, The Citadel (Oct. 12) on Heroes Day, nationally-ranked Chattanooga (Nov. 2) on Homecoming Weekend, and VMI (Nov. 16) on Senior Day and Hall of Fame Day.
Season tickets for all five of WCU’s exciting home games remain on sale through the Catamount Athletics Ticket Office. Options include general admission, reserved bleacher bench, and chairback seats, with a Family Zone four-pack in Section FF. A $10 transaction fee will be charged for all season ticket orders including credit card, cash, and check.
