House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) recently appointed State Representative Trey Kelley (R-Cedartown) to serve on the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Election Procedures and the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Insurance Rates.

“Georgia voters deserve an election system they can trust – one that is secure, transparent and free from confusion or doubt,” said Rep. Kelley. “We have a responsibility to ensure that our laws and procedures uphold the integrity of every vote cast, and I appreciate Speaker Burns’ confidence in appointing me to this much-needed study committee and look forward to working with my fellow legislators to make our elections even stronger ahead of next November. I’m also proud to serve on the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Insurance Rates. This past legislative session, while the legislature debated tort reform, I heard from many hardworking Georgians who feel like their insurance premiums are out of control and this committee is the next step in addressing the rising cost of insurance for Georgia families and businesses. Georgians deserve accountability, and I’m committed to making sure they’re not facing unjustified rate hikes.”
The Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Election Procedures will study and evaluate Georgia’s current laws, policies and procedures utilized in administering Georgia elections, as well as the statewide and local elected officials and boards that oversee the administration of Georgia’s elections. The committee will compile a report of specific findings or legislative recommendations that will ensure Georgia has a secure and effective electoral system ahead of next November’s elections.
The Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Insurance Rates will conduct a thorough examination of the insurance industry’s rate-setting practices, profit margins, claims processing and regulatory compliance to ensure that Georgia’s businesses, citizens and consumers are not being subjected to unjustified rate hikes.
Additional House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Election Procedures study committee members include: State Representatives Tim Fleming (R-Covington) Victor Anderson (R-Cornelia), Martin Momtahan (R-Dallas), Rob Leverett (R-Elberton), Speaker Pro Tempore Jan Jones (R-Milton) and Saira Draper (D-Atlanta).
Additional House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Insurance Rates study committee members include: State Representatives Matt Reeves (R-Duluth), Eddie Lumsden (R-Armuchee), Shaw Blackmon (R-Bonaire), Majority Whip James Burchett (R-Waycross), Noel Williams, Jr. (R-Cordele), Todd Jones (R-South Forsyth), Emory Dunahoo (R-Gillsville), Michelle Au (D-Johns Creek), Bruce Williamson (R-Monroe), Minority Leader Carolyn Hugley (D-Columbus), Jaclyn Ford (R-Tifton), Karen Mathiak (R-Griffin), Majority Leader Chuck Efstration (R-Mulberry) and Joseph Gullett (R-Dallas).

He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2012 and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Health and Ways & Means committees, as well as the Appropriations Subcommittee on Judicial. He also serves on the Code Revision, Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications, Higher Education and Judiciary committees. He is also an Ex-Officio member of the Appropriations Committee.
