On Thursday, Aug. 31, Hayesville High School volleyball teams made the journey to Cherokee to take on the Lady Braves in the second conference match of the young season. While the varsity squad was unable to pick up a win, the JV Lady Jackets were able to bring a victory back to Hayesville.

It was a rough start for the varsity team. Cherokee came out of the gate strong and built up an early lead in the opening set. Hayesville was able to find some scoring success, but was never really a challenge. The Lady Braves took the set 25-13 to go up 1-0.

Set two was an absolute nail-biter. The Lady Jackets put up a fight and found themselves with a chance to even up the match score. Unfortunately for Jacket Nation, Cherokee was able to put together a run when it mattered most and got the 25-22 win.

Going down 2-0 seemed to take the wind out of the Lady Jackets collective sail. The Lady Braves cruised to a 25-9 win, giving Cherokee the 3-0 match-win.

For the JV Lady Jackets, the first set of their match was an intense one. Cherokee tried to get the crucial opening-set win, but the Lady Jackets were just too strong, getting the 25-22 win.

Set two was not as close, but was no cake-walk as the Lady Braves tried their best to even things up. When it mattered most, Hayesville fired on all cylinders, winning the set 25-17 and clinching the match victory.

Next up for the two squads is a road trip to Robbinsville on Tuesday, Sept. 5 to take on the Lady Black Knights.
