A tragic incident occurred during the strong storms that swept through Western North Carolina over Memorial Day weekend, resulting in the loss of a high school cheerleader.
According to a storm report from the National Weather Service, Clay County EMS confirmed the devastating news that an 18-year-old cheerleader from Tuscola High School lost her life when a tree fell on a trailer in the Shooting Creek area of the county around 5:45 a.m. on Monday, May 27.
The severe storms affected various parts of Western North Carolina from Sunday evening into Monday morning, causing significant damage with strong winds toppling trees and hail reported in several areas.
