Traywick leads Young Harris past Chowan 16-15 in OT



David Traywick scored five goals - including the game-winning in overtime - as the Young Harris College men's lacrosse team picked up a 16-15 victory over Chowan University Tuesday (Feb. 28) afternoon at Hawks Field.


The Mountain Lions improved to 1-6, while the Hawks slipped to 1-4. Young Harris returns action March 8 when they travel to Saint Leo, Florida, for 7 p.m. game against Saint Leo University.


INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

  • The Mountain Lions scored six unanswered goals to open up a 14-10 lead after Hunter Stagg scored with 13:35 remaining in the fourth quarter.

  • Chowan scored the final four goals - three of them man-up - in regulation to tie the game at 15 and force the extra time.

  • Jacob Haas took the opening face-off of overtime for the Mountain Lions. Traywick then scored the game winner 27 seconds into the extra time off a Tim Blanch pass.

  • Traywick led the Mountain Lions with five goals, while Blanch added three. Stagg and Tommy Chriszt each pushed two in the goal, while Nic Baker, Jeremy Rice, Dylan Young and Colburn Connelly each scored once.

  • Chriszt led the way with four assists, while Young distributed three more. Blanch accounted for two assists, while Gunnar Fagerstrom had one.

  • Kieran Isbister led YHC with nine ground balls, while Haas, who won 11-of-16 face-offs, corralled seven more. Ben Soenen, Traywick and Gage Duncan had five ground balls each.

  • Evan Anderson picked up five face-off victories.

  • Traywick and Isbister each claimed four caused turnovers, while Soenen and Jacob Miller had three apiece.

  • Dylan Wilbur recorded 12 saves in goal for the Mountain Lions.
