Turn Your Lights Green for Veterans

For the second year in a row, the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (NC DMVA) is taking part in a statewide initiative for the week of Veterans Day (November 6th - 12th, 2023) urging everyone to display or turn their exterior lights green in honor of our servicemen and women. The Department will light the headquarters located in the historic Seaboard Building, 413 N. Salisbury St., Raleigh, beginning November 3rd.

NC DMVA is urging homeowners, businesses, and all levels of government to participate in Operation Greenlight to honor and show support for veterans inclusive of all military branches. This initiative will also raise awareness about the challenges faced by many of these men and women who have selflessly served our state and nation.

Operation Green Light encourages everyone to light up their homes and public spaces with green light bulbs in support of North Carolina’s veterans during November 6th – November 12th. Veterans Day is celebrated on November 11th.

“Our veterans deserve honor and recognition every day. Operation Green Light offers everyone an opportunity to demonstrate our support for our veterans and their families. We are grateful for their sacrifices,” said Lt. Gen Walter E. Gaskin, USMC (Ret.), Secretary of NC DMVA. “We can do small things with great love; their world will shine a little brighter when we all join our lights together.”

NC DMVA also invites everyone to share their participation on social media using the tag (FB/IG: @nc.dmva; X: @NCDMVA) and hashtag #OperationGreenlight !
