Two Catamount Baseball Games Marked for Television

Two Catamount baseball games in early May have been earmarked for linear television broadcast on local television, Western Carolina Athletics announced this week. Ingles and Nexstar Broadcasting again partner for a pair of broadcasts originating from Childress Field / Hennon Stadium.

The Catamounts’ midweek nonconference home game against Big South Conference preseason favorite USC Upstate on Wednesday (May 1), and the Southern Conference series opener against the Mercer Bears on Friday, May 10, will both be televised on WCYW, The CW62 (Asheville / Greenville / Spartanburg / Anderson).

Both games will be simulcast on ESPN+ (paid subscription required) with live stats available online through CatamountSports.com. WSPA-TV Sports Director Pete Yanity will be on the call for both games, joined by the former University of Michigan and MLB pitcher Lary Sorenson on May 1 and the 2017 South Atlantic League Broadcaster of the Year and the voice of the Asheville Tourists Doug Maurer on May 10.

“Ingles and Nexstar Broadcasting are thrilled to bring the excitement of Southern Conference baseball to television,” said Melissa Leavell, Director of Advertising for Ingles Markets. “Ingle’s Game of The Week Series brings college football, baseball, basketball, and softball to the entire Southeastern Region, showcasing the talent and excitement of The Southern Conference and Big South.”

Western Carolina returns home Wednesday evening to host Big South preseason favorite USC Upstate (28-16) in the backend of a nonconference home-and-home at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium. The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. WCU suffered a 16-9 road loss in Spartanburg back on Feb. 21.
