Former Bulldogs María Lourdes Carlé and Ellen Perez each advanced in doubles competition at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games.

Tennis

  • Carlé won her Olympic women’s doubles debut alongside partner Nadia Podoroska with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Germany’s Tamara Korpatsch and Tatjana Maria. Despite trailing 2-1 early, Carlé and Podoroska sparked momentum and broke the German duo twice before taking the first set 6-3. The Argentinian pair never looked back, producing a dominant second set shutout to win the match.

  • Perez earned her first victory in Paris with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Spain’s Sara Sorribes Tormo and Marcel Granollers in the mixed doubles first round. Paired with Matthew Ebden, the Australian duo earned a break to lead 3-1, creating distance before taking the first set 6-3. A slow start in the second saw Perez and Ebden trail 4-1 before stringing together five-straight games with two breaks to come back and win 6-3, 6-4 in straight sets.

  • Prior to her women’s doubles victory, Carlé suffered a women’s singles second round loss against No. 2 seeded Coco Gauff, 6-1, 6-1. Trailing 5-0 in the first set, Carlé managed to fight off a set point and four game points to get on the board before dropping the first set 6-1. Heading into the second, momentum remained in favor of Gauff as Carlé secured a game late but ultimately fell 6-1, 6-1 in the women’s singles second round.

  • Carlé’s women’s doubles campaign will continue Tuesday with a second-round match against Spain’s eighth-seeded Sorribles Tormo and Cristina Busca, while Perez and Ebden will face Spain’s pair of Pablo Carreno Busta and Marcel Granrollers in their second round. Tuesday’s matches will stream live on Peacock.
