Former Bulldog Sepp Straka opened Olympic play tied for sixth after the first round on Thursday at Le Golf National, while future co-head coach of the Georgia gymnastics team coached Simone Biles to an individual all-around gold medal.

 

Men’s Golf

·         Sepp Straka shot a 67 in the first round of the Olympics for Austria on Thursday at Le Golf National.

·         He sits tied for sixth place at 4-under and four shots off the lead after the opening round. 

·         He tees off at 5:55 a.m. ET for Round 2 on Friday. 

 

Gymnastics

·         Future co-head coach of the Georgia Gymnastics team Cecile Canqueteau-Landi coached Simone Biles to her second career all-around gold medal in the individual finals on Thursday. 

 

Coming Up Friday

·         The Olympic track and field program begins Friday with multiple Bulldogs competing at Stade de France. Estonian Bulldogs Johannes Erm, Janek Oiglane, and Karel Tilga will compete in the first five events of the decathlon (100m, long jump, hammer throw, shot put, high jump, and 400m). Denzel Commenentia of the Netherlands will compete in the hammer throw, while Elena Kulichenko of Cyprus and Tatiana Gusin of Greece get going in the high jump. The day concludes with American Keturah Orji starting competition in the triple jump. Coverage of the track and field events will air on NBC and Peacock.

·         Incoming transfer Ieva Maļuka of Latvia competes in the women’s 200-meter individual medley at 5:17 a.m. on USA Network and Peacock. Maļuka previously competed in the 100m and 200m freestyle in Toyko.
