Varsity Lady Yellow Jackets Sweep Hiwassee Dam

Raylyn Taylor sets up Madison Moore for a kill and Hayesville point.

On Monday, Sept. 18, Hayesville's volleyball program welcomed Hiwassee Dam into The Hive for a pair of volleyball matches. The JV Lady Eagle team could not make the trip due to sickness, but the middle school and varsity squads were there to do battle. Ultimately, it was a split night, with the varsity Lady Jackets getting a big win.

The ladies of Hayesville High School wasted no time establishing dominance early on. Raylyn Taylor was a force from the serving line and Olivia Giddens was ruthless in the corner with spikes. In the opening set, the Lady Jackets cruised to a 25-7 win.

Set two was more of the same thanks to a digging clinic from Phoebe Pietila. Brittany Jack was a machine at the serve line, igniting the Lady Jacket fans. Hayesville won the set 25-8 which set them up for a sweep.

The third set had no surprising rallies from Hiwassee Dam as Mallory Peck, Madison Moore and Ella Matheson built a wall at the net to limit any damage from a Lady Eagle attack. Bryleigh Krieger's well placed hits kept the Lady Jackets rolling all the way to a 25-7 set-win and a 3-0 match victory.

Hayesville Middle School's comeback bid came up just short. The Lady Jackets dropped the opening set 25-15, but won set two 25-19. In the third set, a race to 15, Hiwassee Dam got out to an early lead, however, Hayesville fought back. Unfortunately, the rally ran out of time and the Lady Eagles won the match with a 15-11 set-win.

Both teams will be in The Hive again on Tuesday, Sept. 19. The middle schoolers will take on Martins Creek, while the varsity squad will face off with Nantahala. Once again, no JV match is scheduled which means the HMS will play at 4 p.m. and the varsity Lady Jackets will take the floor at 5 p.m.
