At the request of Clay County Emergency Management, a Verizon Response Mobile Cell Tower was deployed on Monday, Sept. 30 to the Clay County 911 Center to assist with cellular communications. The move comes in response to ongoing challenges caused by the Frontier Phone Service outage, which has disrupted local phone services.
Currently, all 911 and administrative calls for Clay County are being answered by Johnston County 911 in Smithfield, North Carolina. Once emergency calls are received, they are forwarded back to Clay County through Viper Radio, ensuring critical communication is maintained.
There is no estimated timeline for the full restoration of landline and cellular services. Local officials continue to monitor the situation as efforts to restore communications are underway.
