WCU’s McCutcheon Signs as UDFA with Los Angeles Rams

Former Western Carolina defensive back Cameron McCutcheon was signed as an undrafted free agent (UDFA) over the weekend by the Los Angeles Rams following the conclusion of the 2023 NFL Draft.

McCutcheon was one of 23 undrafted free agents signed by the Rams after the conclusion of the seven-round draft. He is the third Catamount football player to sign as a UDFA since 2018, joining John Brannon (LA Chargers, 2020) and Detrez Newsome (LA Chargers, 2018).

McCutcheon played in 22 games with 21 starts in the defensive secondary over the past two seasons with Western Carolina after transferring to Cullowhee from Gardner-Webb ahead of the 2021 season. The Seneca, S.C., product recorded 79 tackles in a Catamount uniform including 48 solo stops and 4.5 tackles for loss. His two interceptions with the Purple & Gold came in 2021 with picks against Samford and VMI.

McCutchen had a WCU career-high seven tackles at Oklahoma back on Sept. 11, 2021, matching the total with seven against Furman in November of 2021.

Prior to transferring, McCutcheon played in 25 games at Gardner-Webb posting 87 tackles including 63 solo stops and a tackle for loss. He recorded his first career interception as a junior in the 2020-21 season against Elon and was credited with his collegiate career-best 11 tackles in the 2019 season-opener at Charlotte with the Runnin’ Bulldogs.

Season tickets for Western Carolina’s highly anticipated 2023 five-game home campaign for Catamount football are on sale now both online at CatamountSports.com and through the WCU Athletics Ticket Office in the Ramsey Center or by phone at (828) 227-2401.
