Yellow Jackets Shock Knights In Conference Tournament

They say records don't matter in sports and that's why the games are played. After going winless in the Smoky Mountain Conference during the regular season, Hayesville was looked at by some as an easy win for the Robbinsville Black Knights in round 1 of the SMC tournament. Fortunately for Jacket Nation, the Yellow Jackets didn't agree.

Hayesville played with a refuse-to-lose attitude of Friday, Feb. 16 in Cherokee. It took an overtime quarter, but the Yellow Jackets, as the number 6 seed, bounced the Knights, number 3, from the tournament and brought a 64-59 win back to Hayesville.

Leading scorers

Isaac Chandler: 18 points

Asher Brown: 10 points

Slade Crouch: 10 points

Landon Hughes: 8 points

The win propels Hayesville into the semi-final round on Tuesday, Feb. 20 against Swain County ata 8 p.m.

In other basketball news, the JV Lady Yellow Jackets advance in the SMC tournament with a 42-7 win over Andrews. Hayesville will face off with Cherokee on Feb. 20 at 4 p.m.
