YHC Drops DH to FMU Patriots

The Mountain Lions took to the road and played two games against Francis Marion University on Sunday (Mar. 24) afternoon. Young Harris lost game one by a score of 8-2, surrendering 12 hits after falling behind early. In game two, YHC performed much better, out-hitting FMU 12 to eight, before succumbing to a Patriots four run sixth inning that earned Francis Marion an 8-6 win over the Mountain Lions. 

Young Harris dropped to an even 14-14 overall and 2-4 in Conference Carolinas games. Francis Marion improved to 27-8 and 6-2 in conference games. The Mountain Lions return to play on Monday at 11 a.m. when they take on UNC Pembroke in a doubleheader in Pembroke, North Carolina. 


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

GAME 1: 

  • YHC fell behind FMU 5-0 in the first two innings before scoring their first run in the third inning off of a Patriots fielding error. 

  • Francis Marion added two more to go up 7-1, before Grace Young hit her fourth Homerun of the season to get Young Harris within five runs. 

  • FMU would add one more run in the sixth to eventually win 8-2.  

  • Alyssa Poston pitched the full game for the Patriots and picked up her 15th win of the season. Kylie Ferguson pitched 5.1 innings for YHC, giving up 12 hits and seven earned runs. 

GAME 2: 

  • The Mountain Lions went up 5-2 after a four run fourth inning, on RBI doubles by Hannah Carey and Gracie Hughes

  • YHC would add another run, before FMU stormed back and scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to lead 8-6 and eventually win game two. 

  • Gracie Hughes went 3-3 at the plate and picked up three RBIs; Hannah Carey went 2-4 at the plate and drove in a pair of YHC runs. 

  • Patriots' pitcher Jenna Wallin picked up her 11th win of the season, and Gracie Hughes earned her first loss of the season to move her W-L record to 5-1 this season.
