Young Harris Dominates in New Year’s Day Victory over Fort Valley State University

 The Mountain Lions took down the Wildcats 67-46 on Monday (Jan. 1) afternoon at the Harp Recreation and Commencement Center. The Mountain Lions scored 33 points off turnovers and had 45 points from bench players.  

Young Harris starts off 2024 with a much-needed victory, improving to 4-9 overall. Fort Valley State University fell to 4-5 this season. The Mountain Lions return to action on Wednesday (Jan. 3) against Erskine College in Due West, S.C. 


  • Crystal Corley led the Mountain Lions with 13 points and nine rebounds. 

  • Kamryn Bates scored 12 points, going 10-12 from the free throw line, while adding five assists and three rebounds. 

  • Parahuia Delamere put up 12 points off the bench and recorded four steals 

  • Ayana Cockrell scored 12 points and grabbed four boards for Fort Valley State University. 

  • Young Harris shot a much improved 39.5% from the field and 71.8% from the free throw line. 

  • The Mountain Lions also won the turnover margin against the Wildcats, giving up the ball only 14 times compared to the Wildcats 25.
