Young Harris drops doubleheader against Lander

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College softball team dropped two to Lander University Saturday (April 23) afternoon at Doug Spears Field.
The Mountain Lions lost game one 6-5, and game two 7-1. Young Harris fell to 22-18 overall and 13-10 in the Peach Belt Conference, while Lander improved to 33-12 and 14-7.
YHC returns to action Saturday (April 30) with a 11 a.m. doubleheader against Valdosta State University at the YHC Softball Field.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
GAME ONE
The Mountain Lions got ahead 1-0 in the third off Shea Bayreuther's double to right field that scored Kenzie Chappell.
Lander answered with two runs in bottom of the third, and three in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead.
YHC put up four in the sixth to tie the game at 5. Amber Divine drew a bases loaded hit by pitch to give YHC its first run and three runners scored on a Lander error off the bat of Erin Chambliss.
Lander got the go-ahead run to win the game off a single up the middle.
Bayreuther and Morgan Curley led Young Harris with two hits apiece, while Chappell, Ashley Autuori, Jess Jaruszewski, and Jillian Vitamanti each connected on one.
Jill Dixon (6-8) recorded the loss for YHC.
GAME TWO
Chappell led with three hits, while Bayreuther, Curley, and Erin Chambliss recorded one hit each.
The Mountain Lions scored its lone run of the night in the fifth after Curley singled up the middle.
Kylie Ferguson (9-6) recorded the loss in the circle.
Dixon pitched five innings of relief.
