Young Harris Hangs 16 on the Road at CNU



The Mountain Lions made contact at the plate all day, recording five homeruns and 17 hits (Mar 19th). After a huge seven-run inning in the third, the Eagles were not able to close the gap.


The Mountain Lions move to 22-5 overall and are 9-3 in Conference Carolinas. The Eagles move to 12-12 overall and are 7-5 in the SAC. YHC will head to Francis Marion University this weekend (Mar 23rd + 24th) to take on the Patriots in a three-game conference series.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

· Young Harris defeated Carson-Newman with a final score of 16-7.

· With two outs and two runners on, Kade Smallwood (3-5) singled into right field for an RBI to put YHC on top 1-0 in the second.

· Young Harris took a big leap in the third inning. Steven Spell and Ethan Stamps got things started with base hits each with an RBI. Marco Colina came to the plate and homered to left field, bringing home Spell and Stamps. Immediately following a pitching change, Kade Smallwood went yard as well. YHC was up 7-0 at this point.

· Jeremy Begora stretched the lead by one in the fourth with his solo shot to left.

· Carson-Newman's Sam Astern took one deep in the fifth inning to put the Eagles on the board. The score was 7-1 in favor of Young Harris.

· Steven Spell continued to hit in the sixth, doubling down the left field line for an RBI. In the Eagles half of the inning, Nicholas Castellana homered. The Mountain Lions remained on top 8-2.

· After Mark Castle's (4-6) single, Kade Smallwood homered to right in the seventh. Ryan Potts answered and homered to center field, bringing in two runs for the Eagles. The score was 10-4.

· Each team knocked in one run in the eighth. Mark Castle and Ryan Bolton were credited with RBIs.

· The Mountain Lions kept attacking in the ninth. Drew Bray made contact at the plate with RISP and Jarret Ford homered to left for two runs.

· Luke Goforth hit a two-run homerun in the bottom of the ninth for the Eagles.
