Young Harris now No. 7 in latest NCAA Division II regional rankings

The Young Harris College baseball team is ranked No. 7 in the third release of the NCAA Division II regional rankings which came out Wednesday (May 11).


The final selection by the NCAA for regional play will be at 10 p.m. Sunday (May 15). Seven teams will be selected in the Southeast region for the national tournament. In the Southeast region, the winners from the Peach Belt Conference, South Atlantic Conference (Lenoir-Rhyne University) and Conference Carolinas (North Greenville University) tournaments earn automatic berths while the other four will be at-large selections based on the regional rankings.


Young Harris (35-17) is one of two Peach Belt teams listing in the rankings as Columbus State University (38-9) is ranked No. 3.


North Greenville (45-8) is ranked No. 1 followed by Wingate University (46-8) at No. 2. Lenoir-Rhyne (44-11) is fourth, while the University of North Carolina at Pembroke (38-15) and Belmont Abbey College (34-17) comes in at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. Newberry College (38-13) and the University of Mount Olive (34-20) rounds out the regional rankings at No. 8 and No. 9.


The Mountain Lions return to action this weekend in Columbus, Georgia, at the PBC Tournament. Young Harris will face Columbus State in the first round of the double-elimination tournament at 3 p.m. Friday (May 13) at Burger King Stadium at Ragsdale Field.
