Young Harris stings Wasps 67-57

Mackenzie Johnson scored 23 points and grabbed 21 rebounds as the Young Harris College women's basketball team recorded a 67-57 non-conference victory over Emory & Henry College on the final day of the YHC Classic Sunday (Nov. 27) afternoon at the Harp Recreation and Commencement Center.
The Mountain Lions improved to 3-1, while the Wasps fell to 2-3. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Dec. 3) with a 1:30 home contest against Lenoir-Rhyne University.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
Johnson finished with 23 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field and 11-of-13 from the free throw line. Her 21 rebounds is the second most for her this season.
Trinity Edwards added 14 points and posted five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Kalen Surles grabbed 11 rebounds to go along with her six points, five assists and two blocks.
Young Harris reeled off 10 unanswered points late in the second quarter to open up a 32-22 lead after Johnson sank a free throw with 92 seconds left before halftime.
The Wasps outscored the Mountain Lions 16-5 in the third quarter to open up a 44-39 lead. Emory & Henry took a 47-41 lead on a Grace Glance three-pointer 56 seconds into the fourth quarter.
YHC responded with a 10-2 run to open up a 51-49 lead on an Edwards' three-pointer with 7:09 to go. The Mountain Lions never would surrender the lead the remainder of the game.
The Mountain Lions salted the game away as they converted all six free thows in the final 34 seconds.
Young Harris outrebounded Emory & Henry 54-32.
