Young Harris Sweeps DH on the Road vs UNCP

After falling short in a double-header yesterday, the Mountain Lions pick up two key conference wins this afternoon against UNCP (Mar 25th).


The Mountain Lions advance to 16-14 overall and are 4-3 in Conference Carolinas. The Braves move to 14-23 overall and are 5-5 in Conference Carolinas. YHC will return home this Wednesday (Mar 27th) and take on Erskine College in a double-header. First pitch is scheduled for 2PM.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

Game 1:

· Young Harris tops UNC Pembroke with a final score of 3-1.

· YHC came out swinging in the first inning. Hannah Carey (1-3) doubled to right field for an RBI. Then, Gracie Hughes (1-3) hit a SAC fly to right field to put the Mountain Lions up 2-0.

· Shelby Duncan (1-3) singled up the middle in the sixth to extend YHC's lead to three.

· MaKenna Sibbett opened the seventh with a solo home run to left field to put the Braves on the board.

· Bailee Brown finished 2-4 with a stolen base.

· Kylie Ferguson picked up the win after six IP and six strikeouts.

· Gracie Hughes came in to relieve Ferguson in the seventh and got the save.


Game 2:

· The Mountain Lions defeat the Braves 7-2.

· With two runners on base in the first inning, Addie Heal makes contact at the plate with an RBI single up the middle. YHC strikes first 1-0.

· After a HBP, Makenzie Collins doubled to center field to tie the game at one in the second inning.

· Shelby Duncan and Morgan Johnson came up big for the Mountain Lions in the third. Duncan hit an RBI single to center and Johnson reached on a fielder's choice, also bringing in a run. YHC led 3-1.

· In the following inning, Hannah Carey doubled down the right field line after the Braves put two runners on with a walk and HBP. Shelby Duncan added on for Young Harris with an RBI double to center field. The Mountain Lions jumped out to a 6-1 lead.

· The bats didn't stop there, while Grace Young had an RBI single down the left field line for another run in the seventh.

· UNCP's Emma Eckart singled in the sixth for an RBI. The Braves left two on and trailed 2-7.

· The Braves rallied back in the seventh scoring three runs, but ultimately fell short.

· Grace Young was awarded the win and Emma Black was awarded the save.
