Starting Wednesday, June 11, 2025, Carter Cove Road in Clay County will be closed weekdays from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM through July 1, 2025, for critical infrastructure work, according to a recent announcement from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) bridge crews will be replacing three culverts along the road during this period.

The exact locations of the culvert replacements have not been disclosed, and the Sheriff’s Office noted that NCDOT has not specified which culvert will be worked on at any given time. The Sheriff’s Office pledged to provide updates on the schedule or any changes as soon as they are received from NCDOT.

The closures may impact emergency response routes. Clay County Emergency Services may need to access certain Carter Cove Road addresses via Beach Cove Road, off Old Highway 64 West, during the weekday closure hours. Residents and commuters are advised to plan alternate routes and stay informed about potential changes to the schedule.
