This past Friday, the Clay County K9 Initiative proudly presented the Clay County Sheriff's Office with a check for $22,765, marking a significant achievement in their fundraising efforts. The donation, made through the Initiative's non-profit organization, will directly support the Sheriff's Office's K-9 program.
The check was presented by key members of the K9 Initiative: Brenda Lovett (Treasurer), Lynn Smith (President), and Lorelei Nussbaum (Vice President). Accepting the donation on behalf of the Sheriff's Office was Sgt. Steven Smith, who currently leads the department’s K-9 program and oversees its only K-9 unit.
The K9 Initiative was established to help fund and expand the Sheriff's Office K-9 program, which is essential for law enforcement operations such as tracking suspects, locating missing persons, and detecting narcotics. The generous donation will assist in maintaining the current K-9 and potentially allow for the addition of a second dog in the future.
The Sheriff's Office expressed deep gratitude not only to the members of the K9 Initiative but also to the entire community for their generous contributions. Special thanks were extended to local attorney Larry Ford, who provided his legal services free of charge to help set up the non-profit organization.
With continued community support, the Clay County Sheriff's Office hopes to grow its K-9 program to further enhance the safety and security of the county.
