The Clay County Sheriff's Office is investigating reports of multiple pet poisonings in the area of Old 64 east near Vineyard Road and Mission Hill Baptist Church. Authorities have confirmed that four dogs have died from poisoning, with additional reports of cats also being affected.

The Sheriff's Office noted an increased presence of foxes in the area, but it remains unclear whether the poisonings are targeting foxes or local pets. Residents are urged to take precautions and keep their pets from roaming freely to prevent further incidents.

The Sheriff's Office is actively working to identify the source of the poisoning. Authorities remind the public that intentionally and maliciously poisoning any animal is a Class H felony under N.C. General Statute 14-360(b).

Anyone with information related to these incidents is encouraged to contact the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
