On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported stabbing at 3916 Old Highway 64 West. Upon arriving at the scene, Lieutenant Faggard encountered Joshua Carnes standing at the bottom of the driveway wearing only his boxers, with a knife lying on the ground nearby.
When questioned, Carnes claimed that he had been stabbed. However, Lieutenant Faggard found no visible injuries on him. Turning his attention up the driveway, Faggard saw Ricky Reeder on the porch of the residence and approached to check on him.
It was immediately apparent that Reeder was bleeding from a wound in his left shoulder. Clay County Fire and Rescue Chief Brian Anderson quickly provided first aid to control the bleeding until Clay County EMS transported Reeder to Erlanger Western Carolina for further treatment. Authorities later discovered that Reeder had also sustained a stab wound to his leg.
Carnes was arrested at the scene and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill causing serious bodily injury. He is currently being held without bond at the Clay County Detention Center.
Reeder is expected to make a full recovery, according to officials.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
