Press Release

On 01/08/25, at approximately 4:16 AM, Clay County Officer Aly Daniel was in the area of Mission Dam Road when she encountered Brenda Anne Baldwin, a 52-year-old woman from Murphy, walking down the roadway. Officer Daniel stopped and asked Baldwin if she was okay. Baldwin stated she had gotten into a fight with her boyfriend and asked Officer Daniel for a courtesy ride. During this interaction, Clay County Officer Cory Scroggs arrived at the location.

After a brief inquiry through Clay County Dispatch, it was determined that Baldwin had an active warrant for her arrest in Cherokee County, as well as two active warrants in the State of Georgia.

Baldwin was patted down for dangerous weapons, handcuffed, and placed in Officer Daniel’s patrol car. Baldwin was asked if she had any drugs in her possession, which she denied. During transport to the Clay County Detention Center, Officer Daniel noted Baldwin “fidgeting and moving around” in the back seat. Officer Daniel asked Baldwin again if she had any drugs on her person. Baldwin admitted she had drugs hidden in her sock.

Upon arrival at the Detention Center, Officer Daniel found a small round container in Baldwin’s left sock that contained a baggie with a white, crystal-like substance. When questioned further, Baldwin revealed she had hidden a pipe in the back seat of Officer Daniel’s patrol car. Baldwin then retrieved the glass smoking pipe from the rear seat.

The white, crystal-like substance was field-tested and determined to be 1.7 grams of methamphetamine. Baldwin was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was placed on a 72-hour hold due to being on probation at the time of the incident.
