Press Release
The Clay County Republican Party Executive Committee has discussed the weather forecast for Wednesday and Thursday of this week and decided that with the winter weather headed this way, with forecasts of ice and snow (or a mix thereof) on Wednesday, including the possibility of icy roads Thursday evening, the safest course of action was to cancel the monthly meeting scheduled for this Thursday evening, February 20th at 6:30 PM. The NC DOT facility in Clay County has already started applying a brine solution to the roads, so they are anticipating icing conditions on the roads, along with the bitter cold forecast for Thursday (High of 27 deg. F and low of 11 deg. F.).
*** CLAY COUNTY GOP CONVENTION ON MARCH 20TH ***
As previously announced, the Clay County Republican Party will hold its annual Precinct and County Conventions on Thursday, March 20, 2025, in the upstairs courtroom at the Beal Center/Historic Clay County Courthouse on the Square in downtown Hayesville, NC.
The purpose of the Conventions is to elect precinct officers, county officers and executive committee members-at-large for the next two-year term. In addition, delegates to the 2025 11th District and State GOP Conventions will be elected.
Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Everyone must be registered no later than 5:30 p.m. The Precinct Conventions convene at 5:30 p.m. to select delegates to the County Convention, which follows at 7 p.m.
There will be light refreshments, snacks and desserts immediately following the Precinct Conventions. Attendees are encouraged to bring a covered dish, snack, or dessert to share. The Clay County GOP will provide beverages and sandwiches.
Also, as time permits during breaks in the proceedings, special guests will offer brief remarks. Among the current confirmed guests are NC Senator Kevin Corbin, NC Representative Karl Gillespie, NC Representative Mike Clampitt and GOP District 11 Chair, Michele Woodhouse. Congressman Chuck Edwards expects to attend if the activities in Washington allow him to be here.
