In a tribute to the perseverance of western North Carolina’s graduating students, Governor Josh Stein will deliver remarks at the spring commencement ceremonies of Appalachian State University, Western Carolina University, and Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College on May 9 and 10, 2025. The ceremonies come in the wake of Hurricane Helene, which brought significant challenges to the region, testing the resolve of students already navigating the lingering impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Governor Stein will celebrate the graduates’ remarkable achievements and encourage them to pursue their ambitions despite the adversities they’ve faced. “These graduates, many of whom already had their education disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, have demonstrated tremendous resilience in the face of adversity following Hurricane Helene,” Stein said. “I am proud to recognize their determination and grit.”
