This weekend, October 19th and 20th, Western North Carolina’s popular Punkin Chunkin Festival returns near Hayesville. Sponsored by the Clay County Chamber of Commerce, the festival features pumpkin-flinging machines like catapults, air cannons, and trebuchets launching pumpkins thousands of feet. In addition to the main event, there will be pie-eating contests, live entertainment, food and craft vendors, hay rides, and airplane rides.
The fun kicks off Friday, October 18th, at 6 p.m. with the “Anything Pumpkin” and Chili Cook-off on Historic Hayesville Square. The festival itself will be held at 811 Settawig Road in Brasstown from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Admission and parking are $5, and kids under 5 enter free. No pets or firearms allowed. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy!
