Sheriff's Office Seeks Help In Wreckless Shooting

On Monday, members of the Clay County Sheriff's Office responded to a call for service regarding someone shooting into an occupied dwelling. The victim in the case reporting hearing several gun shots before one entered a window directly behind where she was sitting in a camper. The bullet narrowly missed the victim's head by mere inches. Fortunately, nobody was hurt during what appears to be an accidental shooting.
According to N.C.G.S 14-31 "Any person who willfully or wantonly discharges or attempts to discharge any firearm or barreled weapon capable of discharging shot, bullets, pellets, or other missiles at a muzzle velocity of at least 600 feet per second into any building, structure, vehicle, aircraft, watercraft, or other conveyance, device, equipment, erection, or enclosure while it is occupied is guilty of a Class E felony."
Such careless behavior could have resulted in tragedy.
Anyone with information regarding the origin of the gunfire in the Gnatty Road community is encouraged to contact the Clay County Sheriff's Office. The investigation is ongoing.
