Earlier today, on behalf of the Clay County Board of Commissioners and pursuant to the authority vested in me as the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of Clay County, NC, under Articles 1A of Chapter 166A of the North Carolina General Statutes and the Clay County Emergency Management Ordinances declared a STATE OF EMERGENCY for the entire county of Clay, including the Town of Hayesville.
This declaration took effect at 12PM today and shall remain in effect until modified or rescinded.
The State of Emergency orders all Clay County law enforcement officers, employees and all other emergency management personnel subject to our control to cooperate in the enforcement and implementation of the provisions of said declaration, all applicable local ordinances, state and federal laws, and the Clay County Emergency Operations Plan.

Rest assured, our Emergency Management and Public Safety professionals have been meeting regularly, participating in all relevant briefings, planning and coordinating potential operations and procedures and staging appropriate equipment and supplies to deal with the severe weather event.
An Emergency Operations Center has been set up within the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and will serve as a central command and control center responsible for managing emergency response, emergency preparedness, emergency management, and disaster management functions.
