As of March 17, 2025, the investigation into the deaths of twin brothers Qaadir Malik Lewis and Naazir Rahim Lewis, both 19, from Lawrenceville, Georgia, continues following their discovery on Bell Mountain in Hiawassee on March 8, 2025. Hikers found the brothers deceased at the mountain's summit around 11:05 a.m., each with gunshot wounds. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), assisting the Towns County Sheriff’s Office, has classified the incident as a suspected murder-suicide based on preliminary findings.

Autopsies have been completed by a GBI medical examiner, but official results are still pending additional forensic testing.

The twins’ family has expressed skepticism about the murder-suicide ruling, noting the brothers’ close bond and lack of known conflicts. They missed a scheduled 7 a.m. flight to Boston the previous day, March 7, and their plane tickets were found in their wallets at the scene. Relatives have questioned how the twins ended up in Hiawassee, an area they claim the brothers were unfamiliar with and had no history of visiting. The family is urging a thorough investigation, with an aunt, Yasmine Brawner, launching a GoFundMe to cover funeral expenses while emphasizing their belief that the twins "wouldn’t do this." The GBI has stated the investigation remains active and ongoing, with no further details released at this time.
