The Union County Fire Department is proud to celebrate Firefighter Randy Nolan’s recent completion of the rigorous 40-hour Technical Rescue-Confined Space course, a significant milestone in his ongoing commitment to serving the community. Nolan’s achievement, announced by the department, follows his earlier completion of a 40-hour Rope Rescue Technician course, solidifying his foundation in technical rescue operations.
The Confined Space course equipped Nolan with critical skills to navigate the unique challenges of confined spaces—areas such as tanks, silos, tunnels, and utility vaults, which are not designed for continuous occupancy and pose significant entry and exit difficulties. Through hands-on training, Nolan mastered essential techniques, including air monitoring, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), ventilation, and victim retrieval, all while adhering to stringent OSHA safety standards. This specialized training enhances the Union County Fire Department’s capability to respond effectively to complex and high-risk rescue scenarios.
“Randy’s dedication to expanding his skills shows the kind of firefighter he is—always ready to step up when the community needs him most,” said Chief Dyer. “We’re proud to have him on our team.”
Nolan’s completion of both the Confined Space and Rope Rescue Technician courses underscores his commitment to professional growth and the department’s mission of “Our Family Protecting Your Family.” His expertise strengthens Union County’s readiness to protect residents in even the most challenging emergencies, ensuring the community remains in capable hands.
