The Union County Sheriff’s Office recently honored two deputies for their promotions, recognizing their dedication and leadership. Sheriff Shawn Dyer commended both men for embodying the values of honesty, integrity, respect, and professionalism that the community expects from its Sheriff’s Office.
Lt. Shane Burnette, who joined the Union County Sheriff’s Office in 2015, was promoted to Lieutenant. With 30 years of law enforcement experience, Burnette previously served as Chief of Police in an Alabama agency before coming to Union County. Alongside his law enforcement career, he dedicated 34 years to the US Army and National Guard, retiring as a Master Sergeant. At the Sheriff’s Office, Burnette has spent nine years as a Staff Sergeant in the Uniform Patrol Division, where his calm demeanor and professionalism have made him a role model for younger deputies. His wife, Chantelle, pinned his new Lieutenant collar insignia during the ceremony.
Captain Doug Brackett, a lifelong Union County resident, was promoted to Captain. Before entering law enforcement in 2012, Brackett owned successful businesses in the area. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a Sergeant and later a Lieutenant in 2019, where he oversaw a patrol shift in the Uniform Patrol Division. Known for his knowledge and dependability, Brackett became a trusted leader for younger deputies. Recently, he served as the acting Division Commander of the Criminal Investigations Division, a role he will continue in with his new rank. His wife, Mary, pinned his new Captain collar insignia during the ceremony.
These promotions highlight the Sheriff’s Office’s commitment to fostering strong leadership within its ranks, ensuring continued service to the Union County community.
