Over the past several weeks, deputies from the Union County Sheriff’s Office have been diligently serving the community while also dedicating time to honing their firearms skills at the Union County Gun Range. As part of Georgia’s annual requirements, all law enforcement officers across the state must demonstrate proficiency in handling their firearms, and Union County’s deputies are rising to the challenge.
Under the expert guidance of firearms instructors Lt. Dustin Walker, Sgt. Marc Pilote, and Union County Gun Range Chief Range Safety Officer (RSO) Craig Davenport, nearly all deputies have successfully completed the state-mandated firearms proficiency training. The training focuses on ensuring safe and effective handling of various weapons systems, a critical skill for maintaining public safety.
The Union County Gun Range, a state-of-the-art facility located near Blairsville, has proven to be the ideal setting for this essential training. The Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude for the community members and officials who worked tirelessly over several years to bring the range to fruition, noting its importance as a valuable resource for both law enforcement and the public.
The Sheriff’s Office also extended special appreciation to Chief RSO Craig Davenport for his hospitality and ongoing support. His dedication to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment at the range has greatly benefited the deputies’ training efforts.
The Union County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to serving the community with professionalism and skill, and their success in this year’s firearms training is a testament to that dedication.
