BLAIRSVILLE, GA – The Union County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded a $43,650 grant from the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police (GACP) and the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS), Sheriff Shawn Dyer announced today. The funds have been used to purchase 20 Dell Toughbook laptops for patrol vehicles, enhancing deputy efficiency with durable technology designed to last for years.
The GOHS grant supports the mission to eliminate traffic fatalities and reduce crashes. “The loss of one life on our roads is one too many, and the fact almost all fatal traffic crashes can be prevented is one reason why we are awarding this grant,” said Allen Poole, Director of the GOHS. “The target of zero traffic deaths in our nation is achievable, and we will continue to help develop and implement educational messages, enforcement campaigns, and other safety initiatives aimed at bringing us one step closer to our goal.”
This grant follows Sheriff Dyer’s recent acquisition of $57,509 in Taser equipment for just $125 in shipping costs through partnerships with other law enforcement agencies. Since taking office in January, Sheriff Dyer’s initiatives have saved Union County taxpayers $101,159. More announcements are expected as the Sheriff’s Office continues to prioritize fiscal responsibility and public safety.
