A volunteer firefighter from Towns County, Georgia, faces misdemeanor obstruction charges related to the case of twin brothers, Qaadir and Naazir Lewis, found shot dead on March 8 atop Bell Mountain near the North Carolina state line.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) confirmed the arrest of Scott Kerlin, 42, of Hiawassee, after reports surfaced that he had taken and publicly shared photographs of the brothers’ bodies shortly after their discovery by a hiker. Kerlin is not charged in connection with the twins' deaths, which the GBI initially classified as a murder-suicide—a conclusion disputed by the twins’ family. The 19-year-old brothers were believed by relatives to be visiting friends in Boston at the time.
The family, including the twins’ aunt, Samira Brawner, is seeking answers, describing the inseparable brothers as having no prior signs of conflict.
A GBI medical examiner has completed the autopsies, but the official ME ruling and results are pending additional forensic tests.
