Tied for eighth after 18 holes, Western Carolina women’s golf climbed two spots into sixth place after two rounds were completed on Monday at the Tot Hill Farm Invitational, hosted by the College of Charleston at the course that lends its name to the tournament. The Catamounts posted rounds of 310 and 302 for a 36-hole score of 612 on the par-72, 6,023-yard layout.
Senior Elizabeth Lohbauer spurred WCU’s second-round rally by firing an even-par round of 72 to advance into a tie for 14th entering Tuesday. After shooting 5-over 77 on Monday’s opening 18 holes, the Venice, Fla., native countered two bogeys and one double-bogey with four birdies to post the even-par second-round score of 72. She finished with five total birdies on Monday.
Freshman Madison Lehr recorded rounds of 76 and 77 to sit in a tie for 28th overall with a 36-hole score of 153. She charted a team-best six birdies on Monday – four in the first round and two over the second 18 holes.
Rounding out WCU’s scoring five are freshmen Ella Kovak (80-75) and Annalee Caveney (77-78) in a tie for 32nd with matching scores of 155, and junior Sadler Miller in 50th overall with a two-round score of 161 (82-79). Kovak posted a pair of birdies in both rounds with Caveney carding two on Monday.
Tournament host College of Charleston enters Tuesday’s final round with a commanding 13-stroke edge over second-place East Carolina, 569-to-582. Elon sits in third place eight strokes back at 590, with Coastal Carolina (593) and Gardner-Webb (608) rounding out the top five.
Charleston boasts three of the top six individuals including second-round leader Emilie Von Finckenstein at 4-under par 140 after carding rounds of 1-under par 71 and 3-under par 69. She carries a two-stroke lead over a three-way tie for the runner-up spot between Marta Perez of ECU, Charleston teammate Molly Hardwick, and Elon’s Ashley Lafontaine who are each tied with 2-under par scores of 142.
Paired with golfers from seventh-place Marshall in twosomes, WCU’s scoring five hits the course on the back nine beginning at 8 a.m. on Tuesday with Lohbauer taking the links last at 8:32 a.m. WCU enters the final 18 holes just four strokes outside the Top Five on the team leaderboard.
