Sophomore Morgan Smith carded a 1-under 71 in the first round of the UAB Hoover Invitational to lead the Georgia women’s golf team to a tie for fifth place on the tournament’s opening day.

The Bulldogs opened the day with an 11-over 299 in the first round, placing themselves in a tie for fifth place after the first 18 holes. Georgia then continued on to the second round, which was suspended due to darkness, leaving incomplete results. The second 18 holes will be completed at 8:30 a.m. EDT on Tuesday.
Smith shot a 71 to conclude her first 18 holes in a tie for fourth place. The Westford, Mass., native carded three birdies, including two on the front nine, to earn her lowest 18-hole score of the young season at 1-under.
Sophomore Emma Falcher finished the first round in a tie for 13th place, carding a 1-over 73 over the first 18 holes while sinking three birdies.
Celine Brovold Sanne shot a 4-over 76 to end round one in a tie for 31st. Like Smith and Falcher, the sophomore also tallied three birdies to add to her team-leading mark of 12.
Senior Kate Song opened her 2024-25 season with a 79 to take a share of 58th place.
Graduate transfer Chantal El Chaib carded a two-under 70 with four birdies to sit in fourth place after the first round while competing as an individual. The round marked her low-18 of the season while matching the lowest round in relation to par by a Bulldog in 2024-25.
Georgia entered round two 15 shots off the lead but just four shots out of a tie for second place. Louisiana Monroe led with a four-under team score after round one with Stetson (+7) and Alabama (+8) rounding out the top-three teams.
