Hayesville High School Track and Field Takes The Podium At Conference Championships

The Hayesville High School (HHS) Track and Field team delivered an outstanding performance at the Smoky Mountain Conference (SMC) Championship held in Cherokee on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. Both the girls’ and boys’ teams showcased their talent across various events, earning multiple top finishes and highlighting their depth and determination. The successful performances were good enough to earn runner-up positions for both teams.
Girls’ Team Highlights
The HHS girls’ team secured several podium finishes, starting with the sprints. In the 100-meter dash, Kylah Eller took 3rd place with a time of 13.42 seconds, followed by LaRiyah Carr in 6th (13.91) and Kaydence Morrow in 8th (14.02). Eller also claimed 3rd in the 200-meter dash (28.56), with Morrow in 8th (29.37) and Aaliyah Jackson in 9th (29.46). Ava Shook dominated the 400-meter dash, winning 1st place with a time of 1:01.67, while Micalynn McClure (1:06.33) and Libbie Moore (1:08.43) finished 4th and 6th, respectively.
In the distance events, Savannah Burch earned 3rd in the 800-meter run (2:33.45), with Raelynn Wood in 7th (2:46.05) and Katelyn Smith in 10th (3:05.10). Sydney Greenstone led the 1600-meter run with a 3rd-place finish (5:54.35), followed by Smith in 7th (7:03.87).
Greenstone also placed 4th in the 3200-meter run (13:51.57), with Wood in 5th (13:55.21) and Jadyn Kimber in 7th (17:21.49).
The hurdles saw strong performances from Briley Clampitt, who took 3rd in the 100-meter hurdles (18.51) and 4th in the 300-meter hurdles (54.24). Khylei Alberta placed 5th in the 100-meter hurdles (19.54) and 6th in the 300-meter hurdles (56.79), while Marlo Joyce finished 5th in the 300-meter hurdles (54.43).
The girls’ relay teams excelled, winning the 4x100-meter relay (54.13) and placing 2nd in both the 4x200-meter relay (1:54.87) and the 4x800-meter relay (10:26.63). They also secured 3rd in the 4x400-meter relay (4:25.90).
In field events, Ava Shook cleared 4-8 to take 3rd in the high jump, Micalynn McClure placed 4th in the triple jump (30-4.25), and Blaire Hedden finished 8th in the discus (85-11). In the shot put, Jasmine Brooks took 8th (29-7), with Hedden in 9th (28-7).
Boys’ Team Highlights
The HHS boys’ team also had a strong showing, starting with the sprints. Elio Murillo earned 3rd in the 100-meter dash (11.21) and 200-meter dash (23.38), while Trey Graves (11.50) and Kenyon Rogers-Gibby (11.52) took 4th and 5th in the 100-meter dash. Rogers-Gibby also placed 5th in the 200-meter dash (24.31). In the 400-meter dash, Eli Chandler finished 7th (55.78), followed by Nick Wilson in 9th (56.04) and Kaden Ledford in 10th (56.70).
In the distance events, Jackson Dye led with a 4th-place finish in the 800-meter run (2:11.24), followed by Carter Whitfield in 7th (2:14.92). Noah Carter placed 6th in the 1600-meter run (5:06.96), with Dye in 7th (5:16.51) and Braylen Thompson in 9th (5:26.05). In the 3200-meter run, Parker Hughes finished 7th (11:53.13), followed by Carter in 8th (12:33.07) and Dye in 9th (12:42.00).
The hurdles events saw Jack Dorsey take 2nd in the 110-meter hurdles (17.21) and 3rd in the 300-meter hurdles (46.38). Cooper Matheson placed 5th in the 110-meter hurdles (20.47) and 5th in the 300-meter hurdles (47.96), while Logan Cummins finished 4th in the 300-meter hurdles (47.69).
The boys’ relay teams performed well, winning the 4x200-meter relay (1:33.32) and placing 2nd in the 4x800-meter relay (9:00.02). They also took 3rd in the 4x400-meter relay (3:47.53) and 5th in the 4x100-meter relay (49.75).
In field events, Cooper Matheson excelled, earning 2nd in the long jump (19-3) and 3rd in the triple jump (39-2). Johan Webb placed 6th in the long jump (17-6) and 9th in the triple jump (32-8.25), while Eli Chandler took 7th in the triple jump (33-5.5). In the discus, Landon Trout finished 5th (127-11), E.J. Mapasua took 6th (124-4), and Will Brown placed 8th (110-8). In the shot put, Brown earned 3rd (46-10), Mapasua took 4th (43-9), and Trout finished 7th (41-2).
The HHS Track and Field team’s performance at the SMC Championships showcased their talent and teamwork, setting a strong foundation for the rest of the season.
