On Wednesday, May 21, Hayesville High School senior Tate Roberts officially signed to play baseball for the Bryan College Lions in Dayton, Tennessee. The signing ceremony took place in the lobby of the Daryl K. McClure gymnasium on the Hayesville High School campus, surrounded by friends, family, teammates, current and former coaches, and HHS administration representatives.

Roberts, a standout for the Yellow Jackets, becomes the third player from the class of 2025 to commit to collegiate baseball. During his senior season, he batted an impressive .342, recording 10 RBI and 20 runs scored while drawing 23 walks in 22 games. His performance on the field caught the attention of Bryan College, where he had previously played on their field during travel ball. “It feels like a perfect fit,” Roberts said of his decision to join the Lions, who finished their 2025 season with a 30-20 overall record and 17-12 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

Beyond athletics, Roberts plans to pursue a degree in civil engineering at Bryan College. Hayesville head coach Joe Jack Sellers spoke at the ceremony, praising Roberts not only for his athletic ability but also for his character. “Of all the players I’ve coached over the years, Tate is one of my favorites,” Sellers said. “He’s not just a good athlete but a great kid overall.”

The ceremony marked a significant milestone for Roberts, celebrated by those closest to him as he prepares to take the next step in his academic and athletic journey.
