The Hayesville Middle School baseball team capped a stellar season on Wednesday, May 7th, with a commanding 19-0 rout of Cherokee, securing a share of the conference championship. The Yellow Jackets finished with an 11-1 record, splitting a pair of tight 7-6 contests with rival Murphy, who matched their record to co-claim the title.
The Jackets overwhelmed opponents all season, outscoring them 174-27 across 12 games. Their offensive prowess was unmatched, boasting a .459 team batting average, .588 on-base percentage, 1.141 OPS, and .554 slugging percentage. With 140 hits and 85 stolen bases, Hayesville’s aggressive lineup and fearless base running kept defenses on edge.
Defensively, the Jackets were equally dominant, backed by a stingy 2.42 ERA from their pitching staff, which stifled opposing bats.
This championship squad, forged through years of camaraderie, has a storied history. Many players have competed together since rec ball, winning 10U and 12U Mountain Athletic Conference All-Star Championships. Now, they add a Middle School Championship to their trophy case.
With a potent mix of offensive firepower, speed, elite defense, and pitching, the Jackets have set a high bar. As this talented core looks ahead, the future of Hayesville baseball is undeniably bright.
