Hayesville Lady Jackets Fall Short in Smoky Mountain Conference Tournament Championship



The Hayesville Lady Yellow Jackets faced off against the Lady Bulldogs from Murphy in a thrilling Smoky Mountain Conference tournament championship match at Cherokee High School on Thursday, October 17. Both teams fought fiercely in what turned out to be an intense, back-and-forth contest.


Hayesville started strong, controlling the tempo in the first set and securing a 25-17 victory. Their powerful serves and aggressive net play kept Murphy on their heels, giving the Lady Jackets early momentum.


However, the Lady Bulldogs bounced back in the second set. With sharp passing and well-timed kills, Murphy edged out a narrow 25-23 win, shifting the energy of the match. The battle carried over into the third set, a race to 15 points that had the crowd on edge. Both teams exchanged points in a tight contest, but Murphy managed to squeeze past Hayesville 15-13 to claim the SMC tournament championship.


With the loss, Hayesville finishes their season with an 11-5 overall record. This year also marks the end of their remarkable three-year undefeated streak within the Smoky Mountain Conference, a testament to the Lady Jackets' dominance in recent years.


Despite the bittersweet conclusion to the season, the Lady Yellow Jackets continue to uphold a legacy of excellence in the SMC. Their resilience and determination this season serve as a reminder of the program's strong foundation, ensuring that Hayesville volleyball will remain a powerhouse for years to come.
