Hayesville Picks Up First Win



The Hayesville Yellow Jackets delivered a solid 37-16 victory over Concord Christian on September 28, 2024, displaying both offensive and defensive prowess. Senior quarterback Tate Roberts led the charge, contributing 69 rushing yards on six carries, while also completing 3 of 6 passes for 18 yards. Junior running back Tre Graves had a standout game, rushing for 132 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries, while adding 92 kickoff return yards and an interception on defense. Senior Michael Mauney also made an impact with 105 rushing yards and a touchdown.


Hayesville’s running game was dominant, racking up a total of 362 yards on the ground. Senior Dawson Devane added 40 yards and a touchdown, and sophomore Kaden Ledford chipped in with 21 rushing yards and a score. The Yellow Jackets moved the ball effectively, earning 14 first downs and controlling the pace with 52 total offensive plays compared to Concord Christian’s 41.


On defense, the Yellow Jackets stood firm, allowing just six first downs and forcing multiple mistakes from Concord Christian. Johan Webb and Will Brown each recorded a sack, and Graves came up with a key interception, helping to secure Hayesville’s control of the game. The defense also allowed only 16 points, shutting out Concord Christian in the third quarter.

Special teams were also a highlight for Hayesville, as junior Raul Prieto converted all three of his PAT attempts. Graves had a big kickoff return of 85 yards, while Jack Dorsey added 14 return yards.


With this win, Hayesville showcased their depth on both sides of the ball and continued to build momentum as they head deeper into their season. On Friday, Oct. 4th, Hayesville opens Smoky Mountain Conference play with a home game against Murphy. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
